Methodism has been active in Formby since the early 19th Century, with open air preaching and people gathering for worship and fellowship in homes. It was not until after 1870 that the site in Elbow Lane was acquired and the first part of the present building opened for worship as part of the Crosby Circuit. Since then it has been a story of extensions and adaptations to meet the needs and opportunities presented by the growing community of Formby. The modern development of the Church has gone hand in hand with the post-war expansion of the town as a commuter dormitory suburb. In 1969, a manse was acquired and since then the presence of a resident minister has spearheaded the development of the premises and a rapid growth in membership. The hall has become the heart of a Family Centre, with modern kitchens and various ancillary rooms, so that many organisations have been able to use them through lettings, along with our own many organisations. The climax of all this activity has been the thorough refurbishment of the Church building itself, as a worthy centre of worship for the 21st Century. It features new heating, a new electronic organ, projection facilities, chairs to replace the old pews and a glass-fronted entrance to emphasise the Church's desire to welcome people in and to seek to reach out to those around us in the name of Christ.
